It inspires me to continue creating when I hit a wall, or get too depressed or anxious to hold a pencil. Teenagers from Mars is my all time favorite comic book. And there is a comic book for every genre and every potential reader out there. They can say everything you've ever needed. They can be worth millions of dollars or sold in quarter bins. Comic books have always been a political platform. Macon and Madison are two star-crossed lovers who run afoul of the citizens of the town of Mars, trash a local Mall-Mart, start a prohibition on comics, have Macon's comic book stolen and race into superb anti-hero action.Īnd even though it takes the art of comic books more seriously than some might like, the history is there. One of the workers in the shop submitted a letter to the comic that was posted in the 7th issue I believe, and he mentioned me (although the spelling of my name was butchered).Īnd if you know your history of the book, the cover of the collected edition makes so much sense and makes this tomb all the more personal.

This is easily my favorite comic book story of all time. How could you go wrong? The answer, you can't. I get goosebumps every time I read that scene. Plus one of the most endearing kick-ass heroines in history, mixed with a phenomenal depiction of modern feminist love ever. And c'mon, it's titled after one of the Misfits earliest singles. The quote on the back of this trade paperback collection says it all: "So, you get in fights a lot?"Įqual parts punk rock, Natural Born Killers with a dash of comic book history mixed in for good measure.
